Sports Injuries and Osteopathy

Osteopaths are skilled in assessing and treating people with sports injuries of all types, from an acute traumatic injury to chronic repetitive problems.

Osteopaths are probably most well known for treating spinal injuries but we do treat all areas of the body and often a problem in one area may be related to dysfunction elsewhere.  For example, somebody who plays racquet sports may end up with wrist or elbow pain due to the shoulder muscles (especially the rotator cuff group) not having full flexibility.  This could lead to overuse of the elbow or wrist.

Some sports people come to see osteopaths not because of pain or an injury but because they are aware of an area not working efficiently.  This may present as tightness, restriction, or slight twinges or niggles.  This can sometimes be a simple problem such as over tight calf muscles or the hamstring group but the osteopath will look to see if there may be other reasons for this, or if this restriction may have caused secondary effects.

Osteopaths can therefore help with treatment and advice on aspects of your training routines so that this aids your recovery and limits further likelihood of injury.

We see all levels here from the occasional jogger or golf player to the dedicated cyclist or footballer or competitive athlete.
