General Musculoskeletal Care

Much pain and disability may stem from abnormalities in our body’s structure and function.  These abnormalities may have a number of factorial causes, which may include repetitive strain, trauma, poor posture or even musculoskeletal anomalies and pathologies.

Some of the common problems that may stem from abnormal structure or function may affect the muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and nerves, and symptoms may vary from mild aches and pains to severe pain and disability.

Osteopaths diagnose and treat problems with muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints to help the body’s natural healing ability.

An osteopath can help by assessing the patient and addressing where patterns of tension or restrictions are.  A variety of different manual techniques can then be used to help ease pain, reduce swelling and improve mobility, and therefore help to restore a better sense of balance.

Advice may also be given regarding the short and long term management of problems which could include ergonomic, postural advice, and in some cases specific exercises may also be given.

Some of the common musculoskeletal problems which can benefit from osteopathic treatment are….

-          Muscle and tendon injuries

-          Back and neck pain

-          Sciatica

-          Disc lesions/Prolapses

-          Carpal tunnel

-          Epicondylitis (e.g. tennis, golfers elbow)

-          Whiplash

-          Frozen shoulder

-          Knee, Hip and shoulder problems
